1. Reboot.
2. Press the ESC key when you see GRUB.
3. If there is a recovery mode option select it and press b to boot into it.
4. Otherwise edit, hit e, the default boot configuration.
5. Highlight the line that begins with kernel. Press e again to edit this line
6. At the end of the line, add an additional parameter: single. Hit enter to make the change and press b to boot.
7. You will then be brought to a terminal, this is actually root
8. Type passwd to change root account
9. Type passwd accountname to change another accounts password
10. Reboot and you should be set
